CELLAR TOUR
IN REIMS

An intimate exploration in Reims,
18 metres underground

All year round, Taittinger's interpreter-guides welcome visitors from all over the world to introduce them to the art of champagne-making by going back in time. From the remains of Saint-Nicaise Abbey, dating from the 13th century, to the depths of the magnificent Gallo-Roman chalk pits 18 metres underground, which form part of the Coteaux, Houses and Cellars of Champagne inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Discover more about the history of Taittinger champagne cellars

In the 4th century, the chalk pits were patiently dug out to extract blocks of chalk. 900 years later they would become the basement of Saint-Nicaise Abbey. They were then extended by a network of tunnels linking cellars, crypts and vaults used for storing the champagne wines sold by the Benedictine monks. The Abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but its underground structures remained intact. Owned by Maison Taittinger and used for coaxing the very best out of its most precious wines 18 metres underground, the site welcomes numerous visitors year round, who come to marvel at these stunning remnants of the Gothic style in the champagne region.

Discover the roundness of Nocturne and the supreme sophistication of the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blanc, aged for over 10 years in the depths of Saint-Nicaise.

AT THE TABLE OF THIBAUD IV

An immersive experience inspired by Middle Age banquets

Maison Taittinger immerses you in the poetic and musical ambiance of a medieval banquet where the melodies and vibrations of the past will take you back in time to discover the legend of Thibaud IV, Comte de Champagne.

Upon his return from the crusades, he brought back two treasures previously unknown to the Christian world: the Damask rose and a plant of a new grape variety, now known to be the ancestor of the Chardonnay grape. Thus began the legend of Taittinger…

This new experience in the 13th century setting of the Comtes de Champagne Residence, located in the very heart of the Reims historic district, will be followed by a tasting of the House’s two signature cuvees: Brut Réserve and the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs.
